lost comment (spoilers if you aren’t up to date)

January 27, 2008

Newscoma is discussing the upcoming season of Lost. My comment got long, so I’m reposting it here:

Finished Season 3 on the day that I was supposed to be cleaning. The mess will keep. My patience while trying to get through the season will not.

I really hope Sayid doesn’t eat it. I’ve heard that Michael shows back up (but can’t cite a source, total hearsay). As I’ve been going through and reading trivia and crap, I’m reminded of a ton of unanswered questions. Like what happened between Shannon losing her dad and Boone having to bail her out of relationships to make her such an unbridled bitch? And why was she always making jokes about Boone’s boyfriends?

And what about Walt being “special”? Any correlation between him reading the comic book and the arrival of the polar bear?

Crap, I ought to just do my own post.

And here we are.

There’s so much going on all the time, I know there’s no way they’re going to be able to address every unanswered question, but there are a lot of things I hope get covered. A couple things are ambiguous enough that I suppose they won’t need addressing, like Claire saying that her dad sang Catch a Falling Star to her when she was little, and then Asshole Shephard saying that he used to come see her but then stopped. I guess she might have a fond memory of a person she didn’t remember, but whatever.

Eh, there’s more, but I don’t want to be too nitpicky. At least not publicly.

And for the record, I hate Benjamin Linus way more than I’ve ever hated Gaius Baltar.

  1. Welcome to Lost Fandom. There are a couple of links to sites that keep the conversation going.
JJ Abrams has the Fuselage and then there is Dark UFO. They are very good about keeping the spoilers where you can’t see them if you are interested. I didn’t put the links in because I didn’t want it to get into Askimet.

    Woot. Lost Thursday!!

  2. The real reason Walt had to be written off the show–the child actor playing him grew a year and it would have been obvious that he’d aged more than a few months had he stayed. And there was a correlation between Walt seeing or hearing about something and it happening. The biggest one is the polar bear but we also saw this in flashbacks about Walt.

And I don’t hate Ben or Baltar..they’re just well written, superbly portrayed villians. Why? Because they don’t THINK they’re bad guys. If you asked them, they’d think they were the center of the whole show and the heroes of it all. And that’s why I love them.

  3. I don’t know, Michael. I think they both know they’re pretty bad. Baltar knows, otherwise he wouldn’t want to be a cylon and therefore innocent of his crimes against humanity. He’s got a conscience, but I’m pretty sure he knows he’s screwed up on multiple occasions.

There are many characters on this show that are good but do bad things, but I think Ben has way too much control over his actions and is all too aware of his self serving manipulations to be inherently good. Granted, hopefully we’ll find out what he’s protecting so avidly, and I reserve the right to change my mind should it turn out that he actually is protecting his people from a real threat and not just something he’s personally afraid of. Still, something huge is going to have to happen to make me like him.

But you are right about them both thinking it’s all about them. They certainly do act that way, don’t they.

  4. Oh, and I did notice that Walt had sprouted up about two feet and his voice was changing when Locke saw him. It took me a minute to remember that this isn’t being shot in real time. :)

  5. Walt is supposed to return, and his unnaturally rapid growth is to be addressed. I’m hearing that Sayid may be one of the “Oceanic Six” — the six Losties who make it off the island. Unclear as to whether they’re the only ones who get off. Jack and Kate are among them as well, obviously.
