night of the twisters

February 6, 2008

For three years I’ve been saying that I’m going to pack a Rubbermaid with water, emergency radio, blankets, and dog food and keep it in the crawlspace.  After last night, I’m actually going to do it.

We had our backpacks ready and  leashes on the dogs by the time my parents called to make sure we were hunkered down.  Five minutes later, the news reported a touchdown 2 miles from their house in South Williamson County.  Ten minutes after that, we were down in the crawlspace ourselves, hanging out with the crickets and spiders.

Save a couple shingles torn from the roof, we and our place are fine.  As the reports came in this morning, I learned that the godkids’ cousins got to their bathroom just before a twister touched down half a mile from their home in Arkansas.  Even so, all of our people are present and accounted for. Hope all of you fared as well.

  1. Glad you are safe and sound! After hearing about that tornado wreaking havoc on downtown Nashville a few years ago, I’d have been seriously considering a fall-out shelter if I were still in middle Tennessee. I are skeered of ‘nadoes!
