what

Picture it – Don, Kathy, and Cosmo, having just finished performing an uproarious version of a song they made up on the spot but managed to sing in perfect harmony, collapse onto a sofa and laugh and laugh and laugh. Their merriment dissolves as they remember what brought them together on this fateful night – the doomed premiere of The Dueling Cavalier, a film whose foray into the realm of successful talking pictures is impeded because of the horrendous voice of Don’s stunning yet orally challenged co-star.

In the midst of their misery, they smile as they relive the high point of the movie, when the sound and picture jumped out of sync, therefore making the villain seem to speak in the damsel’s voice and vice versa. Cosmo’s eyes light up, and he exclaims, “I am just about to be brilliant!” His idea to overdub the grating voice of the shrill actress with that of sweet Kathy saves the movie and all of their careers, and they all ride off into the proverbial sunset, living happily ever after, etcetera.

Thusly, out of my love for Singin’ in the Rain, the title for this blog was born. More accurately, it was snatched right out of a script. Accept whichever you like. Mind, the original purpose for choosing that as a title was not to imply that brilliance would be found herein, but that it could be expected to show up anytime. ‘Could’ being the operative word.
